I typically post timelapse videos to my YouTube, but this was a gift and I want the recipients to be able to see and share this! And plus people typically find me here. This is a portrait of Romeo, who passed recently. I did a painted rock of Romeo in 2018 (🤯 will post to my stories) back when I had a rock painting business. I had to give my good family friends something newer of mine to remember Romeo by. Rest in peace buddy 🕊️❤️

Happy NEDA week (national eating disorder awareness week)! I typically roll my eyes when this week comes around because as a teen I never saw myself in any of the “official” posts. I’ve decided to reframe it this year and post for me and for the people like me who are never shown to have EDs but are just as (if not more) affected.

I’m working on a series called “Anxiety at the Table” which explores these themes through oil pastel scenes and portraits. It’s an incredible show and celebration of Black art, and I think pouring into and focusing on things like this is what will help us build the world we want (and deserve). I find my posts with longer, more heartfelt captions get less likes and views, which sucks but that’s the time we live in- but I can’t share about this exhibit without yapping for a bit. I started crocheting in August of 2020, about 4 1/2 years ago. I was gifted a crochet set by my Grammy Cindi who also crochets. At the time I didn’t know that I came from a long line of crocheters, a few great grandmas, great aunts, and a great great godmother. There are so many crafty and incredibly skilled women in my family, my Grandma Pearls mother (my great grandma) handmade every single dress in her wedding. They had their wedding at Maplewood Memorial Park in 1967, which we recently found out. This goes so much deeper than likes and clicks and money and commissions and engagement. Everything I create and everything I am is for the fiber artists in my family who didn’t get the recognition and platform that I am able to get now. And when I think about it like that, nothing else matters. Not even close. If you scroll you’ll see some of my crochet journey- back to my first project. Two of my crochet muppets, titled “Mommy” and “Daddy” will be displayed at Black Art Unveiled. Check it out if you can.

Wanted to post a pet sculpture commission I did recently!! This is Cody, he passed December 5th 2024 but lived a full 10 years- which is such a blessing. Who remembers that Cream with Outer Stripe Cardigan from my City W. Pop Up?? This is it now. My mom took this one for herself when I came home with it after the pop up, and I have to say she absolutely decked this thing out! She was particularly excited about this one when I made it, so I kind of knew if it didn’t sell it’d be hers. I am really happy it panned out that way. She attached it to a hoodie, which is also removable by the way due to its sewed on snaps (because she is a #genius #visionary) but she didn’t stop there. She bought a bunch of expertly picked patches to put on it as well as some charms. The initial inspo was a vintage Nike varsity jacket, but this is truly all her!! I say it all the damn time, but my mom is the vision. She is the moment. Play the Beyoncé “this is what I wanna see” audio from the Renaissance tour because that is this!! I’m really looking at these photos like “that’s my mom!! That’s Kai!! 🥹” because she really is that girl. In summary, I love my mom and she knocked this one out the park! Also get a cardigan #commissionsopen

What a year!!! Best year for kendubart so far. I get so emotional thinking about how things are falling into place and how incredibly blessed I am to live this life. Very grateful for all of you, for the power of creation and the gift that art is, and for getting to see another full year. 2025 will be great, I’m already claiming it ⭐️

Trip down memory lane… Knkrocks!!
Throwback Tuesday?? Is that even a thing lol. Thinking back to how this thing all started, by painting rocks for local businesses in my town. Scroll to see some of the ones I made and delivered (back in 2018 😲)! Who also can’t believe that 2018 was 6 years ago, because I sure can’t.
For those who don’t know the story, in 2018 me and my mom painted some rocks from our backyard for fun. We came up with the idea to do local business logos and things just snowballed from there into a small business, but really, a way to build community. If you got a rock back in 2018 (and the following pre-pandemic years), thanks for accepting my rock, even if you don’t have it anymore. What a time it was. It’s crazy to see how things have changed 💛

The socials will have you thinking everyone is doing better, creating better, and living better than you, but best believe I have fails and go through it!! Calling the first edition Kia (my mom’s name is Kai)… we think it’s hilarious. My dad was being a goof in the photos/videos- we had a good laugh so please enjoy 😂🤭

Don’t know what possessed me to make another of these, but I know my muppet is one of my favorite things I’ve made and they bring me soooo much joy. There may be more being made as we speak 🤭 Stay tuned.
